A2 drawing of lilies in coloured pencil |
Looking at negative space is important. Sometimes when
drawing from observation it is difficult to get the form correct on the object
being drawn. However by looking at the negative space and ensuring the shapes
are correct, it is easier to get the form of the object correct.
To draw plants in the correct proportions, I used my pencil
and thumb to check the size of the flowers in comparison to each other and the
objects in the picture. I also checked that the negative space shapes were
correct. This helped to ensure the flowers were in proportion with each other.
To achieve an effect of three dimensional space, I paid
particular attention to the angles at which the flowers are facing. In
particular the flower facing away from the viewer and the one on the left helps
to give a feeling of three dimensional form. Along with the angles of the
flowers the use of light and dark colour also plays a part in showing three
dimensional form.
